Monumental columns and decorative pillars providing architectural majesty and timeless structural presence.
At Shree Ram & Company (Vijeta Stone), our architectural stone pillars combine classical Indian and Grecian proportions with modern structural engineering. Sourced from dense Bansi Paharpur pink sandstone, Gwalior Mint, and Makrana marble, our columns range from solid monolithic load-bearing veranda pillars to hollow modular cladding columns designed to conceal RCC pillars or steel beams.
Extracting crack-free solid sandstone blocks capable of sustaining heavy vertical compressive loads with 60+ MPa strength.
Precision lathe turning of base plinths, fluted or bell-shaped shafts, and ornate elephant/floral Corinthian capitals.
Engineered hollow-core or segmented interlocking pillar sleeves designed to wrap seamlessly around structural RCC columns.

Compare load-bearing natural stone grades against hollow precast alternatives for structural and decorative columns.
| Material Grade | Ideal Application | Compressive Load Capacity & Weather Rating | Maintenance Level | Longevity |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Bansi Paharpur Pink Sandstone | Temple Mandapas, Heritage Verandas, Grand Porch Columns | Supreme Load Capacity (65+ MPa Strength, Century Weather-Immune) | Zero Maintenance | Centuries |
| Gwalior Mint Sandstone | Modern Fluted Villa Pillars, Corridor Colonnades, Balcony Columns | High Compressive Strength (Fine Grain, Resists Surface Weathering) | Very Low | 100+ Years |
| Makrana Pure White Marble | Sacred Mandir Pillars, Palatial Foyers, Luxury Courtyards | Supreme Crystalline Density (Cool Translucent Marble Luster) | Periodic Milk/Water Wipe | Lifetime Legacy |
| Jodhpur / Chhatar Pink Stone | Monumental Public Buildings, Heritage Hotel Entry Porticos | High Density (Withstands Extreme Atmospheric Pollution & Frost) | Zero Maintenance | 200+ Years |
| Precast Concrete / GFRC Columns (Market Alternative) | Budget Residential Porch Wraps | Vulnerable to Rebar Corrosion, Spalling & Surface Cracking | Periodic Painting | 15-25 Years |
Solid stone pillars are carved from a single monolithic block of natural sandstone or marble and are capable of carrying direct structural dead and live loads from roof beams and upper floors (compressive strength >60 MPa). In contrast, hollow cladding pillars (also called split or modular column wraps) are manufactured in two semicircular halves or 3-part segments designed to wrap around an existing reinforced concrete (RCC) column or structural steel I-beam. Cladding pillars provide the identical regal aesthetic of solid stone while allowing seamless retrofitting around structural building frameworks.
Our master Sompura carvers follow classical architectural orders derived from the Manasara and Shilpa Shastra. A traditional stone column is divided into three harmonious sections: the Adhisthana (base plinth, typically 1/5th total height), the Stambha (shaft, typically 3/5th total height, available in octagonal-to-round fluted taper), and the Shirsha (carved bracket capital, typically 1/5th total height, featuring carved elephants, lotus petals, or classical scrolls). Standard diameter-to-height ratios range from 1:6 for sturdy heritage porticos to 1:8 for graceful interior colonnades.
Solid stone pillars are anchored using concealed vertical central dowel pins forged from grade-316 stainless steel (typically 25mm to 32mm diameter). The pin is embedded 150mm into the concrete foundation slab with non-shrink structural epoxy grout and extends 150mm upward into a pre-drilled core hole in the base of the stone shaft. A matching top dowel pin locks the capital securely into the overhead beam, eliminating any possibility of horizontal shear movement during seismic events or high winds.
Custom carved stone pillars typically cost between Rs 18,000 to Rs 1,20,000+ per column depending on total height (e.g., 7ft residential vs 14ft monumental), shaft diameter (8 inches to 18 inches), stone grade, and the complexity of capital carving. Production time in our Jaipur atelier takes approximately 3 to 5 weeks. Pillars are pre-fitted, numbered, wrapped in protective foam, and shipped in reinforced wooden crates with nationwide door-to-site delivery.
